  I would like to buy a new canister light maybe a Halcon 21 HID light. Has anyone had any experience with a light they use and like.

  I have a dive rite 10 w hid and a 15w halogen niterider, I am pleased with the DR, Halcyon is agood light too I think the only people that have cannister lights that are above water are Sartek, but they do cost, green force is great also if cost is not object (600- 800 for a light)

  I have three Green Force LED and highly recommend them.

  dHey Jim,Green force is most certainly a great light, , I know cannot asfford one , at this point , My DR is serving me well, its all a matter of really affordability . I'm sure if any and everydiver had the means htey would kit out with their choice. But, once again Jim I love this site because once again from your comments , are high level divers who openly and without browbeating , give their recommnedations without the tone of gospel, and be genuinely sharing knowledge in the spirit of cameraderie and enthusiasm. Kudos sir, oh yeah , jim were you ever in FL or are you published you look and sound familiar :) thanks for sharing :)

  Hi Emanuel, you're right about Florida. I spend 6 months a year (nid-Oct to mid-Apr) in Barbados and the other six months in Largo FL where I own and operate Oceansports International, LC. When I am in Florida I also work part time at Tackle Shack Water Sports and dive many of the springs, grottos & caves.

  I think we may have met , but boy sounds like a great deal I guess I will just maintain chambers and get out there to still hear great dives, as I get out to do a few of my own ,

  I also have a nite diver light and like it. It has a split 35 w and 15 w setting. I need to upgrade to a hid light.

  Why HID? Th enew generation LEDs put out a lot of light, have very efficent current draws and are very tough.

  I have only used the early small led backup lights( I have the 1st gen oms vega, and a DR backup). So I really only can only go from what I have experience over the years and see now, I know the Eled's are out there, buit from what I have seen on the sales floor so far, Ekled' being the new lights are more costly .

  It's not a canister light but for the value ($500 in store, we managed a bulk buy from distributor for $360 each) I don't think you can go past these Darkbusters http://www.brightstar.com.tw/product_info_e.php?UID=772.
  You can get 8W, 21W & 24W. I use a 21 W and get 2 hr burn time, they are guaranteed to work for 1 hour out of water and have used mine out of water on many occasions. They are rated to 200ft, come with both 12 volt and (us)240 volt chargers as well as a set of diffusers that clip into the front lens. I use mine for the video with plenty of light from 1 light and a dimpled diffuser to remove the hot spot. Without the diffuser it is super bright with deep penetration, really good value light if you don't have the coin for some of the high end canister lights.

  How much would you be interested in selling one for? I have a nite rider light and I think it may be time to upgrade.

  I prefer pretty much ANY Green Force lamp. I have 2 GIII models, 1 HID and 1 LED lamp. in my opinion the LED lamps are great, they just miss power to light up farther objects

  I have first hand experience with the Halcyon 21w HID. Its a very nice light with nice tight beam and it's adjustable. Burn time will range from 2-6 hours depending on can size/battery. If there is 1 thing that I dislike about it is the ballast is located in the light head, while I understand why they do it that way, it does occupy a lot of room on your forearm especially for someone with less real estate to begin with. If you do have a smaller stature, I would recommend the Light Monkey 21w, the ballast is located in the can making the light head considerably smaller than the Halcyon. Cheers

  Light Monkey makes excellent cave and video lights. I have a 50 watt HID that really makes HD video "show its colors."

  I personally use the Halcyon 21w light and love it. I am not the biggest guy and at first I thought that the bigger ballast may be an issue, but just like anything else, once you start using it, you get use to it and it is no issue. I think that Halcyon & Light Monkey are making the best lights, either route you go, you will not make a mistake.
